Masters in Scent Detection

Our next Masters in Scent Detection will be from September 9th through October 9th, 2025. We will meet through our Virtual Academy for Dog Trainers every Tuesday and Thursday from Noon-1:30pm. Top Tier K9 Foundation Dog® Trainers are eligible for the Master's class in Scent Detection.

Scent detection is one of the most important and most complicated training functions. Dogs are amazing at finding target odors, but if not trained and handled properly, dogs will begin to falsely indicate quickly and that can become a default behavior that can be impossible to fix.

Advanced scent detection is more of a science than an art. Any change to an environment that affects the handler can disrupt the dog's ability to find odors as small as a virus, blood sugar levels, cancer cells, and up to narcotics and explosives.
